THE GOLDEN DRAGON

SYNOPSIS

One night, in a multi-story building, somewhere in Europe: A young Chinese man suffers from severe back pain in the kitchen of the Thai-Chinese-Vietnamese fast food restaurant, The Golden Dragon. He has no residence permit, no money and cannot go to the dentist. The colleagues decide to tear it away. The Young Man can't find his missing sister either.

Many residents live in the building. On the balcony above the Golden Dragon, an old man wants to go back in time while his pregnant granddaughter is faced with the ruins of her relationship because her boyfriend does not want children. Downstairs, a man, left by his wife, visits his friend, an enigmatic shopkeeper who forces a Chinese girl into prostitution. Two flight attendants eat in the restaurant. One of them stumbles upon and saves a moa that fell into her Thai soup.

Interspersed between the scenes is the Fable of the Cicada (which kept nothing in the summer) and asks the Ant to feed it during the winter. She agrees and forces her first to work for free, then to prostitution which the Cicada endures until an old ant (the grandfather) rips off her antennae and then she is seriously injured by a young ant (the groom). The Chinese boy bleeds to death in the Golden Dragon kitchen. His colleagues wrap him in a tapestry and throw him into the river, which takes him home to China, imagining his last dream. Inga, one of the stewardesses, also throws the grindstone into the river.
