After a night of partying, the fatuous king Berenguer I, who created a world to his measure, appears on stage. He doesn’t want to believe it. He thinks it’s a nightmare and doubts that that moment is near, so he doesn’t stop giving orders with the pride of the one who thinks he controls everything. He thus attends the last moments of his life together with his first wife, Margarita, and his doctor, who try to get the king to accept that he is at the end of his life.
Meanwhile, his second wife, Queen Mary, tries to hide this reality from him and soften his agony.
